Stick around for performances by musician Soleil and Villain Theater's very own High Notez: The Improvised Musical, followed by a panel discussion featuring Jessica Merino, former Planned Parenthood Miami Organizer, activist & organizer Kat Duesterhaus, and Commissioner Ken Russell.

About the panelists

Jessica Merino, she/her pronouns, is the former Planned Parenthood Miami Organizer. She began organizing with the Biden for President campaign in 2020, and has worked in progressive spaces ever since. As the Planned Parenthood organizer, her focus was to grow the local college Generation Action chapters and encourage going people to get involved in the fight for reproductive rights. She recently resigned her position to begin law school this fall, and she hopes to continue fighting for reproductive rights in the courts.

Kat Duesterhaus, who identifies as non-binary and uses “they” and “she” pronouns, is a Miami resident and Board member of Florida NOW and Miami Coalition to Advance Racial Equity. In the last legislative session Kat organized 100,000 letters to legislators in support of social justice, and since the SCOTUS leak they have been organizing Bans Off Our Bodies protests for reproductive rights in Miami.

Commissioner Ken Russell is the elected official for District 2. As a small businessman with an international profile, Ken entered Miami politics in 2015 with an optimistic view on positive change. As Commissioner, Ken has focused on big picture issues such as affordable housing, sea level rise and transit options. He was instrumental in passing the Miami Forever Bond, which will invest $400 million into housing, parks, streets and flood mitigation throughout the city. He has also led the way on passing inclusionary housing policies, building the city's public Baywalk and expanding trolley routes, bike lanes and other mobility options.
